Many of Argentina's Finest Specimen & Proof Banknotes

Argentina has one of the world's largest number of banknote issuers, including early bancos, bancos nacionales garantidos, regional and private banks, and provincial banks, Banco Nacional, and Banco de la Nacion. These entities have issued some particularly attractive banknotes, which are both complex in their designs and striking in their vignettes and colors. An unusual feature of many of the Argentina banknotes is that the back side also features nice vignettes.

According to the PMG population report, many of the surviving examples of the highest graded early notes from Argentina are specimens, proofs, and remainders. The specimens can generally be differentiated from remainders in that the specimens have serial numbers that are all zeros. Most proof issues are uniface. Many of the early notes are quite scarce, with only a single example or two showing up in the population report.
