WORLD BANKNOTES 360 - BRAZIL

Many of Brazil's Finest Specimen & Proof Banknotes

Brazil has a tremendous variety of gorgeous banknotes, both general and specialized issues. Many of the pieces are noted for their intricate designs and bright colors, and many of the specimens and proofs are in a remarkable state of preservation. Brazil itself harbors an active collector base, and its banknotes are also popular throughout the world.

Issuers of Brazilian banknotes have included provincial entities (to 1857), Banco do Brazil (to 1890), Imperio do Brasil (1833-88), the Empire (1850-1885), regional issuers (1892-97), Republic banks (1889-93), the Republica (1891-1931), and 20th century regional issuers (beginning in 1924).

The population report by PMG indicates that many of the surviving banknotes from Brazil are quite rare, having populations of PMG-graded notes of three or less. Pricing for the early notes is difficult, as they don't seem to come on the market nearly as often as the later ones.

Below you will find scans of some trophy-quality banknotes from Brazil. To view the Brazil banknotes that we presently have for sale, please click on the link displayed in the box below.
