Many of Paraguay's Finest Specimen & Proof Banknotes

The earliest banknotes from Paraguay (1856-74) had crude vignettes and made little use of color. Beginning in 1875, notes issued by the National Treasury, Banco de la Republica, and a handful of specialized banks depicted many stunning vignettes and were quite colorful. Many of the larger denomination, early 20th century banknotes from Paraguay were oversized, which made the visual impact all the stronger.

The world banknote population reports by PMG show that most of the graded pieces from Paraguay are specimens and proofs from the American Bank Note Company. Many of the graded banknotes have only a single example graded. Only a very few of the banknotes prior to 1875 have been graded by PMG, and, at the time of this writing, none of the graded examples from that era were in uncirculated condition.
